Board of Directors
The Board of Directors is the governing body of ARCH Hospice and is responsible for exercising governance authority and setting policy direction. The Board is accountable to the Members of the Corporation for the effective governance and implementation of ARCH’s Mission, Vision and Values.
From time to time, positions on the ARCH Hospice Board of Directors become available and are advertised on this website. When vacancies present, any interested member of the public may apply.
Dan Puddister
Board Chair & Chair of Governance Committee
Dan joined the ARCH board in June 2022. He brings extensive governance and leadership, relationship building, human resources, facilities and financial management, strategic planning, health and safety and NGO experience.
Heidi Atkinson
Secretary, Chair of Quality Committee
Heidi is a CPA, CA with 15 years of experience in accounting, audit, and risk management. She has 10+ years of experience in risk management including risk identification, control assessment, risk response and reporting of such information. She has a general knowledge of many different organizational functions and regulations and requirements.
Ian LeClair
Treasurer & Chair of Finance Committee
Ian Joined the ARCH Board of Directors in June of 2021 and is also a member of the Finance Committee. Ian is an Electronics Engineering Technologist having served in the Canadian Armed forces Navy, worked as a civilian in telecommunications in Ottawa before returning to the Sault joining Algoma Steel’s Major Projects and Construction group in 2007. Ian is the United Steel Workers LU 2724 Health and Safety Representative full time currently. Ian also has a farm in the Laird area primarily focused on hay production. Ian was drawn to the Arch Board through several lived experiences over the last few years and wanted to support the ARCH with his efforts.
Joanne Kovich
Director
Joanne joined the ARCH Board of Directors in June 2021. She is a local Real Estate professional and has contributed significantly to the local community through her public relations and marketing experience. Joanne is a huge supporter of ARCH and has lived an experience through their care. She proudly brings with her this personal experience along with her community connections, communication and event management skills to contribute to the growth of this important organization.
Annette Katajamaki
Director
Annette joined the ARCH Board of Directors in June 2020. She brings extensive leadership experience in the not-for-profit charitable sector, mental health and addictions, systems design, community development and governance.
Tahnee Caraballo
Director
Tahnee Caraballo is a local lawyer within the community. She brings experience in nonprofit governance, compliance, risk management and a commitment to community service. Joining the ARCH Hospice Board has been driven by a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for individuals in their final stages. Witnessing the difference that compassionate care can make, she is eager to support an organization that embodies such essential values.
Jeanette Biemann
Director
Jeanette joined the ARCH Board of Directors in June 2020. She is a small business owner and a practising professional engineer with previous governance experience in her various executive roles for the Algoma Chapter of Professional Engineers Ontario. Jeanette also brings her technical background in health care facility design, construction and operations to the ARCH Board of Directors.
John Stadnyk
Director
John Stadnyk brings decades of governance and leadership expertise to the board, drawing on his experience as a former Director of Education. He offers a deep understanding of strategic planning, conflict resolution, and labour relations. John's commitment to community collaboration and educational excellence continues to guide his strategic oversight in board governance.
John Thompson
Director
With a strong foundation in finance and fund development, John Thompson offers valuable insights into accounting, budgeting, and financial planning. His experience in human resources and risk management further enhances the board’s capacity to lead with both fiscal responsibility and organizational foresight.
Jenna Buck
Director
Jenna Buck is a Registered Social Worker with a strong background in clinical and palliative care. Her dedication to quality improvement and performance management is matched by her leadership in supportive care. Jenna's compassionate, client-centered approach helps shape programs that meet the evolving needs of those served.
Mary Ellen Luukkonen
Interim Director
Mary Ellen joined the ARCH Board of Directors in June 2019. Mary Ellen brings extensive health care, risk management, and quality leadership to the ARCH Board of Directors. She is passionate about health care and making a positive impact.
Kimberly Streich-Poser
On Leave
Kim Streich-Poser brings four decades of experience in a variety of social services as a Registered Social Worker and executive leader to the Board of ARCH. She has been a leader in the community and is passionate about the provision of comprehensive responsive services for vulnerable persons in our community. Kim brings experience in facilitating community partnerships and positive relationships with all levels of government.
Dr. Nicki Apostle
Medical Director
Dr. Nicki Apostle was born in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario and is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario where she also obtained her medical degree. Her residency in family medicine and fellowship in Palliative Medicine were completed at the University of British Columbia. In 2009 she began her full time palliative medicine career at St Paul’s hospital in Vancouver, BC until 2016 when she relocated back to her home town. Dr. Apostle is honoured to continue her passionate work in palliative care in the community she was born and raised and where she now raises her own two children, Nicholas and Evangeline.
